  Meade County Water District

The Meade County Water District was formed May 10, 1983 by then Judge/Executive Bert Watts.  Judge Watts and Fiscal Court named three commissioners to oversee the newly formed district.  They were: George Thomas, Melvin Dowell and Ray Griffee.  Their first project was water lines to the Weldon area of the county.  A grant from the Housing and Urban Development and a loan from Farmer Home Loan funded the project at a cost of $1.1 Million.  In 1987 the district provided service to over 230 customers.  Since then the district has grown to over 4000 customers.

As we continue to grow, we are pursuing many funding avenues to ensure the reliability of existing water lines and facilities and water needs for the future.  We have recently obtained from the U.S. Department of Agriculture a Rural Development Loan/Grant to add 31 miles of new water lines in western Meade County.  The Kentucky 228/Rhodelia Water Expansion Project is a $2 million project that began February 8, 2010.  The project is expected to take 11 months to complete.  See related story by clicking on "News & Information."
